Natural resources are getting scarcer

Our modern way of life consumes more and more natural resources. Transportation is a prime user of fossil fuels. Until now, economic growth has meant a ever growing consumption of these natural resources.

Consequently, as we write these lines, the planet is being mined. And mines, sooner or later become exhausted. This is simply not sustainable.

The demographic time bomb

Our planet was host to 2 billion human beings in 1900. We were 4 billion in 1970. Now we are more than 7 billion and this figure will reach 9 to 10 billion in 2050.

An important factor is that this growth takes place mainly in emerging countries, where it creates wealth and mass consumption, driving a growing need for natural resources.

However acceptable Western way of life may have seemed when only the USA, Europe and Japan were tapping most of the world’s resources until the 1970s and 1980s, this is no longer the case with 9 billion people aspiring to higher levels of comfort, to higher consumption and to individual transportation means.

Climate change

Nobody knows the consequences of the release of billions of tons of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. There is one certainty though: global equilibrium and life cycles will be impacted in an uncontrollable way.

The automobile of the 20th century is doomed

Given these trends, it is obvious that the automobile that dominated the 20th century is on its last leg. Automobiles emit a substantial part of all CO2 emissions and use petroleum, a non renewable resource.

It is a priority to keep the automobile and the fantastic freedom of movement it allows, without jeopardizing the quality of life of future generations.

Freshmile's mission is to contribute to a global and sustainable answer to the issue of mass mobility.
